About CP Planning

CP Planning is a non-profit urban planning organization practicing a human rights approach to community planning. Our mission is to align for public, non-profit, and private sector organizations within the land use development industry to invest in solutions that uphold the economic, social, and cultural rights of marginalized people to have access to good housing, good jobs, an adequate standard of living, and opportunities for cultural expression.

Strategist

Opportunity

Application due date:  Accepted on ongoing basis until position filled 

Start date: Flexible

Compensation:  $65,000-$74,000 - commensurate with qualifications

Reports to: Senior Strategist

Commitment: 35 hours/week 

Benefits:  Health Spending Account and Life and Disabilities Insurance program provided after completing 3 months of probation. 


The CP Planning team is seeking a detail oriented and creative problem-solver to join in the role of Strategist. The ideal candidate has experience designing and innovating within ongoing and dynamic program strategies within small to medium sized organizations, enjoys managing multiple projects, and has demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced dynamic environment.

As CP Planning collaborates with vulnerable communities, the ideal candidate must have direct experience conducting community engaged work and contributing to social justice. The Strategist will work closely with the CP Planning team to implement the Roadmap for Redevelopment Plans to Confront Systemic Racism (Roadmap). 

Responsibilities

Administration

  • Contribute to the design, management, and evaluation of strategy processes to ensure effective project management. 
  • Support the development and delivery of projects and key stakeholder engagement strategies, ensuring alignment with prescribed timelines and allocated budget. 
  • Monitor and manage project risks, utilizing contingency plans and timely communication with stakeholders. 
  • Analyze operational data to gain insights and guide decision-making, presenting the impact of operational strategies to key stakeholders. 
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director, Board, and senior staff in achieving organizational targets


People and Culture

  • Develop and maintain regular communication with public, private, and non-profit sector stakeholders, keeping them informed about CP Planning's work and its impact on the community. 
  • Represent CP Planning in meetings, committees, and events involving sector stakeholders.  
  • Facilitate internal communication regarding strategic initiatives, fostering a collaborative environment. 
  • Supporting policy development through research, writing, analysis, and advice.
  • Proactively identify policy issues and events of significance to the work of CP Planning. This includes monitoring industry trends and news sources to identify emerging issues.
  • Track and support on the progress of public sector consultations and processes.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Policy, Urban Planning, Communications, or a related field. 
  • Minimum of five years of experience in strategic planning, project management, or a related role in a non-profit, public, or private sector.
  • Comprehensive understanding of, and existing network within Canadian municipal, federal and provincial governments.
  • Proven experience in managing projects, with a track record of delivering on time and within budget. 
  • Demonstrable skills in context analysis and ability to use this to drive decision-making.
  • Strong understanding of operational processes, policies, and workflows.
  • Demonstrated experience in organizational/resource development, personnel management, and financial/budget administration
  • Strong interpersonal, conflict resolution, and leadership skills as to effectively engage with coworkers, prospects, and partners
  • Good decision-making skills and dependable response to high-pressure situations
  • Working knowledge of office and project management software programs, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Planner, Microsoft SharePoint, and related software
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice, anti-racism, and anti-oppression via experience in community organizing or capacity building with racialized communities
  • Be flexible to work remotely or in person, as needed


Desired

  •  Experience in collaborating with high-level stakeholders such as CEOs, Presidents, or Board Members
  • Three or more years of experience working in non-profits or as a board member of a small sized non-profit
  • Three or more years of proven success in a project management role
  • Experience in risk management and contingency planning.
  • Ability to effectively facilitate cross-sectoral communication and collaboration.
  • Strong network within public, non-profit, and/or private sector organizations.
