About CP Planning

CP Planning is a non-profit urban planning organization practicing a human rights approach to community planning. Our mission is to align for public, non-profit, and private sector organizations within the land use development industry to invest in solutions that uphold the economic, social, and cultural rights of marginalized people to have access to good housing, good jobs, an adequate standard of living, and opportunities for cultural expression.

Director of Operations

Opportunity

Application due date:  April 10th, though interviews scheduled on a rolling basis

Start date: May 6th or earlier

Compensation and Commitment:  $80,000 - $98,000 - 35 hours/week. Compensation commiserate with qualifications

Reports to: Executive Director

Benefits:   Health Spending Account and Life and Disabilities Insurance program provided after passing 3 months probation.

 

The CP Planning team is seeking a senior professional to join in the capacity of Director of Programs. The successful candidate will guide their direct reports and coordinate engagements with external collaborators as to assure optimal implementation of projects. The ideal candidate has considerable experience and proven leadership skills in the management of both day-to-day activities and long-term strategic actions.


The Director of Programs will play a leadership role to support the CP Planning team implement the Roadmap for Redevelopment Plans to Confront Systemic Racism (“Roadmap”).


The Roadmap addresses the intersecting problems of systemic racism, tenant displacement, and low planning outputs of affordable housing. These problems are addressed through Inclusive Neighbourhood Planning Hubs supported by strategic planning, mentorship, and vertical integration between racialized communities experiencing displacement pressures and those with the assets, knowledge, and/or social capital to plan and develop affordable housing. This multi-sectoral and multi-disciplinary collaboration designs and fortifies social, tech, and policy infrastructure to increase affordable housing supply by increasing the economic inclusion of racialized people in the housing industry of planning, building, and managing affordable housing.


The ideal candidate lives in Toronto, Peel, or another adjacent municipality. This is a hybrid position, with the selected candidate expected to attend in-person meetings at the CP Planning office at 2575 Eglinton Ave W, Toronto every Wednesday and every other Monday, as well as to attend in-person meetings or events as needed.

Responsibilities

Resource Management

  •   Adapt short and long-term project plans in collaboration with the Executive Director and Senior Leadership Team
  • Advise on the adapting and refinement of project budgets and budgetary controls
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Senior Leadership Team to evaluate, resolve, and mitigate impact of project challenges, concerns, or risks 
  • Perform quality control assurance of project processes and materials as to achieve the outcomes targeted
  • Ensure that all support staff have adequate training, the required information, and resources to carry out their tasks effectively
  • Delegate tasks to your direct reports who are best positioned to complete them
  • Lead cross-disciplinary collaborations to ensure that all parties are on track with project requirements, deadlines, and schedules


Relationship Management

  •   Identify and implement strategies to develop and maintain partnerships with private, charitable/non-profit, and public sector organizations and leaders with whom there is alignment with CP Planning’s mission 
  • Serve as a point of contact for project(s) you manage 
  • Guide project tracking, reporting, and liaison with project clients, funders, and collaborators over the lifetime of project implementation
  • Support the preparation of reports, presentations, panels, and other project communications materials 
  • Attend and represent CP Planning and speak about CP Planning’s projects at public meetings, community engagements, and other events 


Organizational Strategy

  •  Collaborate with the Executive Director and Senior Leadership Team on program development, proposals, end of year planning sessions and visioning for future programming and organizational infrastructure
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to manage and co-develop budgets for new projects
  • Contribute to ongoing and annual performance reviews of organizational operations and team reporting to you

Qualifications

Required

  • Undergraduate/Masters degree in public policy, urban planning, real estate, or related fields
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice, anti-racism, and anti-oppression via experience in community organizing, capacity building with racialized communities, and/or other activities to validate and implement poverty reduction strategies
  • Excellent written and communication skills with the ability to motivate and inspire others
  • Effective problem-solving, organizational, and planning skills
  • Passionate about building new connections, and weaving together information and relationships as part of strategic method to accomplishing objectives
  • Thrives in dynamic spaces, flexible and eager to adapt to meet evolving project needs 
  • Flexible to work remotely or in person, as needed


Desired

  • Fluency in French
  • Experience with public speaking
  • Strong understanding of municipal land use planning processes
  • Technical expertise in affordable housing development including development approvals and financing processes
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Suite (Teams, Planner, One Note, SharePoint etc.)
