About CP Planning

CP Planning is a non-profit urban planning organization practicing a human rights approach to community planning. Our mission is to align for public, non-profit, and private sector organizations within the land use development industry to invest in solutions that uphold the economic, social, and cultural rights of marginalized people to have access to good housing, good jobs, an adequate standard of living, and opportunities for cultural expression.

Director of Operations

Opportunity

Application due date:  August 4th 

Start date: As soon as possible, ideally by September 18, 2023

Compensation and Commitment:   5 and 4 day options available -  compensation commensurate with qualifications

  • 35 hrs / week (5 days a week) Pay: $90,000 - $108,000 / year
  • 28 hrs / week (4 days a week) Pay: $72,000 – $86,400 / year

Reports to: Executive Director

 The CP Planning team is seeking a seasoned and accomplished individual to fill the role of Director of Operations to lead and optimize our organization's operations. We are looking for an experienced professional with a proven track record in managing complex projects and teams, who can drive efficiency and uphold our mission and quality standards. This role provides an excellent opportunity to generate impact while mentoring and sharing expertise. The 28 hrs (4 days) a week option is available to support accomplished professionals seeking work-life balance

Location

The ideal candidate will be based in Toronto, Peel, Ottawa, or Hamilton. This position requires regular attendance at in-person meetings, though we are a hybrid office.

Responsibilities

Organizational Strategy

  • Provide strategic advice and mentorship to the CP Planning team, clients, and collaborators in designing, managing, reporting, and evaluating operational policies, processes, and workflows for enhanced efficiency and project management.
  • Support project development, including planning, management, and coordination of project teams ensuring timely delivery, effective communication strategies, and achievement of key performance indicators (KPIs) within allocated budgets.
  • Develop and implement operational policies to optimize the organization's core functions, leveraging your extensive experience to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Streamline procedures and workflows to enhance efficiency, productivity, and overall performance.


Relationship Management

  • Collaborate in identifying, recruiting, and cultivating relationships with vendors, partners (private, non-profit, and public sector organizations), job candidates, donors, and clients.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement by encouraging knowledge sharing and cross-functional collaboration among team members.


Resource Management

  • Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential operational risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Monitor budget performance, analyze variances, and provide recommendations for cost optimization and resource allocation.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements, overseeing the timely filing of documents and monitoring adherence to laws and regulations.
  • Oversee accurate and timely preparation of forecasts, annual budgets, auditing, and scheduled expenditures.

Qualifications

Required

  •  College or undergraduate degree or certificate
  • Positive attitude and ability to work well within a team.
  • Minimum of twelve (12) years of experience demonstrating success in project management or operations management roles.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of experience serving as a director or in a leadership position within a medium-sized non-profit or charity.
  • Demonstrated expertise in organizational/resource development, personnel management, and financial/budget administration.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, conflict resolution, and leadership skills, enabling effective engagement with coworkers, prospects, and partners.
  • Strong decision-making skills and ability to handle high-pressure situations.
  • Proficiency in office and project management software programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Planner, SharePoint, and related software.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice, anti-racism, and anti-oppression practices through experience in community organizing or capacity building with racialized communities.
  • Flexibility to work remotely or in person, as required.


Desired

  • Familiarity with applicable federal and provincial non-profit regulations and management processes.
  • Knowledge of urban planning, city building, community development, and/or affordable housing topics.
  • Experience as a Board Chair, Secretary, or Treasurer 
  • Proficiency in finance management software programs, such as QuickBooks, Dext, Plooto, and related software.
  • College or undergraduate degree or certificate in Business Administration, Management or similar background.
